remote mobile telephone veiwng CCTV

Hi, i have security cameras connected to a 4CH MPEG 4 DVR using port 80 which i can veiw remotly over the internet using a computer but can not access using a mobile phone,my hostname is office.dyndns.info I have tried different phones including Windows 7 based but no luck. I am considering purchasing a new DVR (using the latest H264 compression technology) the salesman assures me there is mobile phone support, i am a bit wary because i do not understand how it works. I do not have a static IP so that would mean that i would still need to use my dyndns hostname which takes me to a blue log in screen? (any time any where IP surveillance new generation video web server) which i am unable access on a mobile phone, just get error message http 404

Thanks for your help so far, Would appreciate more advice
Mario

As Cry Havok already suspected, a mobile phone with its reduced browser capabilities is not eligible to be used with this DVR. The minimum requirement would be a Windows based browser (for the AP setup.exe to run) or browser Java support (for most other OSes).

So, you really need a kind of computer (Windows, Linux, Mac OS) to connect to and use this DVR. A netbook or other roaming device may do it already. And you're even in a lucky position with this, as many DVRs need explictly only Internet Explorer with ActiveX enabled.

Ask your own question and we can help you (though, frankly, a simple Google search will tell you).

If it works with a PC but not the phone it suggests that the CCTV may require a full PC (possibly an ActiveX control). Unfortunately as you haven't told us what your full hostname is, or anything about the CCTV unit (make, model and version number) there's no way for us to know what the problem really is.

If you edit your question with:

  • your full Dynamic DNS hostname and port you're using
  • the make, model and version number of the CCTV unit

we should be able to help you work out what's happening.

Can I strongly recommend that you ask your (updated) question on a DVR/CCTV specific forum (Google should find you a few dozen). There you'll be able to find people who can advise you on your choice of DVR/CCTV unit to support your particular mobile phone choices.
