[Closed] Ping.eu won't ping my DNS Host Name

Dear DynDNS.com, I have setup a new account and have read through the tutorial and troubleshooting.

Ping.eu won't ping mydomain.dyndns.org. (which I assume is pinging outside of my LAN). My DynDNS.com Host Name has been setup. I have configured my router Linksys WRT610Nv2's client update. (may be wrong). I can ping mydomain.dyndns.org from my PC's CMD prompt. My web browser brings up IIS7 front page when using the URL mydomain.dyndns.org.

Router Linksys WRT610Nv2's settings:

DDNS Service: DynDNS.org
Username: My DynDNS.com username
Password: My DynDNS.com password
Host name: mydomain.dyndns.org
System: Dynamic
Mail Exchange (Optional): blank as not sure what to put in here.
Backup MX: Enabled
Wildcard: Enabled
Internet IP Address: My External ISP's IP address.
Status: DDNS is updated successfully, Operation complete

So, I'm still trying to find a 100% foolproof way of testing the dyndns.org setup. I'm paying for the service, but I am finding it really hard to setup and test. If you like, I can contract through my company to develop user friendly/easy to use and setup to up the subscriptions from free to paying.

This is a user to user forum, we're not staff.

Besides, you've already tested the DynDNS part of this and it works. Any remaining problems are unrelated to DynDNS and are entirely down to your local setup.

Anyway, I'll wait a few more days and see if further tests confirm 100% that my VoIP, Internet and email server can be reached via mydomain.dyndns.org.

If it works then it works, and as you've never told us your domain we can't help you in any way with the testing. From an external computer:

  • Point a web browser at http://mydomain.dyndns.org - if your web site appears then it works
  • Send an email to <validuser@mydomain.dyndns.org - if you receive the email then it works
  • Use a SIP client to connect to a valid SIP address at mydomain.dyndns.org - if the call connects then it works

In every case if the connection fails the problem will almost certainly be one of:

  • Your ISP blocks that port
  • The configuration of your server is incorrect
  • The port forwarding configuration on your router is wrong
  • Your update client isn't working

Then you know that your web server is accessible. Now try the tools at MXToolbox to see if your mail server is accessible (that tool, and others, are listed in the guide I linked to before, which is not the FAQ).

It's clear to me that the DynDNS part of it - resolving your hostname to your WAN IP - is working. Whether everything else is working only you can tell since only you know what you want working and what your hostname is. You'll have to test each service, from outside your LAN, to confirm that they respond. Testing your mail server, once you confirm it's accessible, is as simple as sending an email to a valid username on your mail server - <user@mydomain.dyndns.com>.

Well, I tested from outside my WAN with Chrome and mydomain.dyndns.org opened up an IIS7 page. I'm assuming that's my Windows SBS 2008 server?

I also pinged mydomain.dyndns.org and 4 packets sent but none received. The ping command does automatically bring up the my extneral IP address, which I think means it's working? -it's not a meaningful diagnostic tool so I'm not relying on the ping test then.

How can I test to ensure mydomain.dyndns.org is working properly? I need to provide VSPs, email servers and routers the mydomain.dyndns.org once I'm 100% it's working.

Also, my Linksys WRT610Nv@ router has been setup as per the above 1st post settings, but how can I confirm this is working 100% too?

At the moment if I use ping.eu to test my websites, they're all going to my webhost, rather than to my external IP address, which will ultimately be mydomain.dyndns.org?

YES, I've read http://www.dyndnscommunity.com/faq

Ping is not a meaningful diagnostic tool - most devices automatically block ping requests from the Internet so that you can't ping it means nothing.

Do you have a problem reaching the services you want available, from the Internet?

Dear Cry Havok, I hope I'm replying in the correct place, as I couln't find a reply to the forum post.

It is best to edit your question, but comments work too for small amounts of information.

Yes, I am having problems reaching services I need available from the Internet. It may be my basic understanding, as I need to test the dyndns is working, so I can issue the new hostname to my email, voip and domain name hosts

In that case I would recommend you work through this guide, which should cover what you need. If you run into further problems please edit your question to include your hostname, the port's you're using and the problem you're having.

When you say domain name hosts do you mean DNS servers? If so you cannot reliably run a DNS service on a dynamic IP address.
