I'm not receiving any mail with MailHop Relay!

I have my MailHop Relay service configured to send to my mail server, mail.domain.com, but all my test emails do not come through and I receive no bounce backs. I have my mail going through port 25 on my residential internet connection.

Also, please do check the log files on your mail server to see if it has received any connections or not.

In addition to the possible causes mentioned by Cry Havok, a misconfigured firewall could also be blocking the connections. Do verify that any firewalls are configured to accept traffic on port 25 (or another port, depending on what port you have configured MailHop Relay to use when connecting to your server).

Try the diagnostics at MXToolbox, using the hostname for your home connection. These will tell you whether or not you are able to receive email with your current configuration.

If that fails the cause may be one or more of the following:

  1. Your ISP blocks port 25/TCP inbound - if that is the case then MailHop Relay supports a number of other ports
  2. Your port forwarding isn't configured - configure your router to forward 25/TCP to your LAN's mail server
  3. Incorrect configuration on the mail server. This one is more complex to diagnose and could be anything from it not being running, running but not listening on the network to not supporting the domain in question. You can narrow that down by doing the following from another host on the LAN: telnet my.server.ip.address 25 - if you get a banner back then you know that it's running and listening on the LAN so it's either external (port blocking by your ISP or lack of port forwarding) or that it doesn't support your domain (your mail server's logs will help with checking that).
