Have a strange error. My updater stops working. I get the "winhttp" file error. Full description. I installed dyndns about 4 months ago, dyn updater worked well. Lat two weeks been having issues. updater error : winhttp file error. Could not fix. format and reload, still same error. then I changed the local static ip to a different one, client worked immediately. changed it back to original address, client hung. Changed it back to second one worked. I updated the rules and forwarding in the netgear router. All was well, 4 days later the same thing, ip address not being updated. chaned local ip again from xxx.xxx.x.170 to xxx.xxx.x.169. working again. I have no idea what is causing the ip to go bad. firewall disabled, no spam, spyware, worms, infections or any of that normal complecations. pc full format 5 days ago. I did mail support but they say nothing. Anyone, please assist

Your local IP addresses are related to the Update Client in no way, but to the port forwarding rules. The local IP addresses should be static outside the DHCP range of your router.
The Updater, on the other hand, is supposed to update your hostname with your public IP address. If it doesn't do its job, you'll certainly find some hints in its log. Is this where winhttp file error appears? You had to post the whole error message and more.
So, from what you tell us, you seem to have two problems, unrelated to each other.
