I tried setting up a dns here

I tried changing my ip (internal ip) from dynamic to static with Portforward with static IP - a program from internet. nothing worked so i changed it bact to dynamic

I tried to use Port forwarding wizzard but got no results.

To test the connection i have to computers with their own separate internet connection. when wifi is on they can connect to the DVR. when their wifi is off they cannot, But other pages load just fine.

Ok,

Can you connect wirelessly to the MIFI on your machine and then can you go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ and write down your WAN IP then can you click start then run and type cmd then hit enter to open a DOS window

When it opens can you type ipconfig and hit enter then let me know what you get for the Default gateway address.

Once you have the deault gateway address which should be something like 192.168.1.1 can you open a web browser and type http://192.168.1.1/ or whatever the gateway address is and hit enter to open the MiFi's login page.

When it opens can you login using the default password which should be admin.

Once into the MIFI config can you look at the client list and make a note of the IP address the DVR is using.

Net can you then go to the Advanced menu and then select Port Forwarding and let me know if you can then setup the port forward to the DVR's IP address .

If you have issues let me know.

Thanks

Eric

Ok,

In that case we will probably need to forward more ports on the MIFI, However I cannot find the manual for your DVR so I am going to suggest we setup what is known as a DMZ.

This is where all traffic can go to and from the DVR without being filtered or blocked and should allow this to work for you .

These are the Instructions to create your DMZ file on the MIFI from Verizon.

If you can log into your MiFi and then Go to Advanced > Config File tab.

Download the Configuration file to your PC after entering your MiFi administration password and clicking the ‘Download File' button.

In your download folder look for the file named ‘config.xml.sav'. Save this file in a known location for future use. Open a copy of the file using ‘Notepad' program.

Please be aware that this file contains the configuration settings of the MiFi. Observe caution and only change the settings as specified below, since these settings will directly impact the MiFi functioning.

In order to enable the DMZ feature look for the DMZ field in the config file and make the changes as specified below: 1 192.168.1.XXX

The XXX in the IP address should be same as the IP address of the DVR

Save the file. Ensure that the name is same as the downloaded file i.e. ‘config.xml.sav'.

Go to the MiFi Administration page and Upload the newly saved config file. Click on the ‘Browse' button in the ‘Config Upload File' section, select the newly saved config.xml.sav file, enter the MiFi administration password, and click ‘Upload file' button.

This will restart the MiFi and apply the new settings. The host computer might get disconnected from the MiFi and might need to be manually re-connected using the local host computer/client's WiFi manager.

Once the local host computer/client is reconnected to the MiFi it will be in the DMZ and exposed to the internet.

Once all that is done can you then recheck your wan IP and then try connecting to your DVR again and let me know what happens

Thanks

Ok,

What it would do is expose the DVR to the outside world and make it accessable from the internet.

On a PC that is something you do not want to do as it can expose the machine to cause all sorts of issues, However with a DVR it only has 1-4 ports that are open and can ever be opened and port forwarding them so you can view them on the net is the same thing as the DMZ.

Basically DMZ'ing a DVR is the easyest way to port forward it and there is nothing it can harm, But A PC is a totally different story.

Thanks

If not we will need to try and find what ports your dvr uses.

Ok,

This should be really easy to do and I cannot understand why there is not an option under port forwarding to add additional lines in the screen.

Could you open the MIFI port forward screen then Press Ctrl + Prt Screen and take a screen shot then click start then programs then accessories and open Paint then paste the image to paint and save it as a PNG file.

Once you have done that can you then click the paperclip in the top toolbar of this post and attatch the screenshot so I can look at one thing?

I am not worried about the serup port, However if you could change the Media port to 110 and then go to the port forward config screen and then select Pop3 and enter the DVR's IP

That way we are using 110 and 80 so we can then test and see what happens.

If you would do that and then let me know what your IP shows as from whatismyip.com

Ok,

In that case the only other thing I can imagine that might work is to contact virgin and see if they have a static IP or other service that you can sign up for that would then possibly allow you to setup port forwarding.

Other than that I am totally out of ideas and personally I cannot work out why Verizon and ATT will allow their MiFi devices to port forward any port but Virgin will not.

I will opt out nad see if any of the other experts can think of anything at all that might help with this.

Thank you Yes I called virgin Told them i wanted to be able to see dvr from home on internet at work. they said that i should use port filtering and that it would work. windows diagnostics says the page is online but not accepting connections. thank you. Should i delete all that post from above?

Thank you Yes virgin mobile is my isp. I think they use novatel a sprint network. My coonection has nothing to do with the D0D Hey i am open to any suggestions. I will contact virgin again and ask them for more help. Last time i called they kmew exactly what i wanted , I think it is common nowadays for some to want to see (baby monitor) DVR while at work. I just cant understand why it is so difficult to do

ok i just called virgin. I called twice and talked to two different "live advisers" They both said that i can run services and connect remotely. They said i have a dynamic ip. I asked about getting static ip but they said i would have to call back for a supervisor. how come the dvr does not show on network map. see pic Opps i cant use img tags Please see img here

Opps new users can only post 5 hyperlinks see img here www.alternaterealityinvestigation.com/uploads/pic19.png

hey i found some support information for the dvr here easterncctv.com/knowledge/dvr/network_simple.htm their router port forwarding screen looks different than mine. Can you help me put those numbers in my router?

ok they were not the same. that sucks. I wanted my dvr to be mobile while having internet connection. I do Ghost investigation for a hobby(alternaterealityinvestigation.com) I wanted to be able to take it to different places, set it up with cameras and then be able to have people access that video live from the internet. What kind of mobile internet would work for this?

This guide should be what you're after. If you have problems please edit your question and include the information listed at the bottom of that guide.

Did you read and work through the guide? It covers port forwarding and testing - in summary:

  1. Set your DVR to have a fixed (static) IP address on your LAN (this is critical)
  2. Forward the required ports for your DVR (see the manual that came with it) to the DVR

Do please work through that guide. If, having done that, you're still having problems please remember to edit your post to include the ports you've forwarded.

Please use the markup codes to avoid your (very long and already hard to read) question becoming an (even more) unreadable blob of text.

That said, I think I know what your problem may be. Your posting shows that your MiFi router has an external (WAN) IP of 28.249.211.196. Your hostname resolves to 66.87.7.107 (and you're posting from 66.87.2.230). Your router uses the mobile phone network - which rarely provide routable IP addresses. You need to talk to your ISP to find out if it is possible to run services and access them remotely.

Virgin? Neither of the IP addresses you posted suggest that Virgin is involved in your connectivity. 28.249.211.196 is part of the Department of Defense and 66.87.7.107 is Sprint Nextel. I suspect that whoever is providing your MiFi connection is using NAT to hide their inappropriate use of somebody else's IP range on their internal LAN. If that is the case, and your MiFi isnt provided by the DoD, then you'll never be able to access services behind that device remotely.

Can you provide a screenshot of the WAN page of your MiFi device - showing your WAN IP etc. At the same time please visit http://checkip.dyndns.org:8245/ and post that IP address too. If they aren't exactly the same then you'll be out of luck.

What kind of mobile internet would work for this?

That primarily depends on your mobile Internet provider. Don't forget that your ability to stream media across a mobile connection will be very limited - even a single person won't get a high quality stream and if you're looking at multiple people they'll probably get next to nothing.

You'll probably want to ask on forums dedicated to mobile Internet devices, ideally ones based in the same country as you.
